Holly Farm

Getting There

Nantucket Land Bank Property

Grassy Paths

Few Dogs

Some shade

20 minute walk

NOTE: In April of 2016, the Land Bank topped the holly trees per the request of an abutter. It looks horrid, and the jury is out whether they will ever come back. . .

Leash Alert: At the beginning of the trail, there is a sheep pasture with an electric fence. The sheep are not always here, but leash up your dog right out of the car just in case.

To get there, head away from town on the Polpis Road until you see the Wauwinet Road on your left. There is a hard left immediately before the Wauwinet Road called Polpis Harbor Road. Take that left and follow this road all the way to the end, where there is a parking lot.

What an absolute gem. It’s short, but so sweet and full of charm.

Leave the parking lot and head down the grassy trail. For a beautiful view of the harbor, go straight. To walk the full trails, go left, which brings you by a small pasture of sheep and chickens. This path takes you over boardwalks and through mown fields. You’ll go through an enchanted holly forest, along paths overhung with grape vines, and behind a row of Nantucket summer “cottages.”

The paths are all loops, so you can’t get lost. Take one, then take the other, loop as many times as you want, and then head back to the parking lot.

In the summer, there are mosquitos, so try going on a day with a stiff breeze.
